237 years ago Dr Joseph Warren, the head of the American spy network, learned that the British commander in Boston, General Gage, was staging for an attack on Lexington to seize the leaders of the revolution, Samuel Adams and John Hancock.  The British Regulars were then to march to Concord to capture arms and ammunition stored there.

On April 18th, 1775 Dr Joseph Warren sent Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Dr Sam Prescott to get Adams and Hancock out of harms way and alert the militias along the way that "the Regulars are on the move".

Wikipedia has an excellent, detailed account of what transpired on that midnight ride and "the shot heard round the world" on Lexington Green the following morning.  It is well worth your time to read and remember those brave Americans that risked everything for freedom.   http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battles_of_Lexington_and_Concord
